IEDEREEN GAAT VREEMD

The title of this song translates to “Everybody Cheats.” It tells the story of a young woman, played by Froukje herself, who refuses to face reality and confront the truth about her cheating boyfriend. The video features the infamous “grindtrain,” or as we call it in Dutch, “de schuurtrein,” which is where the literal translation comes from.

NIKE X PATTA DREAMBOY

I shot this while driving from New York to Los Angeles. It features my great friend Ezra Ewen. After this experience, he really caught the acting bug and went on to direct himself in a series of iconic videos. You should definitely check them out on his Instagram or Vimeo.

DE DRIE MUSKETIERS (THE THREE MUSKETEERS)

For the discerning viewer, an audiovisual joust created in collaboration with De Warme Winkel.

JOE SPEEDBOOT

Based on the acclaimed novel Joe Speedboot, this film has it all: love, sex, and arm wrestling. It is my latest adventure and my biggest project to date. Produced by Baldr Film and Czar in Belgium, it’s a magical story about a young boy who becomes paralysed and repeatedly finds ways to reinvent himself and overcome the challenges life throws at him.

Met Mes

After moving back home from New York, I came across this project. It was a challenging start, partly because it was an already funded film that needed to be completely rewritten. The themes that were already there felt familiar, but I saw an opportunity to take the story somewhere more personal. I accepted the challenge partly because it came with complete creative freedom. After working with Vice and 20th Century Fox, experiences that sometimes felt creatively restrictive, this felt like a breath of fresh air. We embraced that freedom fully and pushed the film as far as we could, to the point where I’m pretty sure we were alienating parts of the audience.

PostMobile

To cringe or not to cringe? That phrase probably applies to all of my work. But hey, you have to embrace it. And once you do, the uncomfortable can become surprisingly enjoyable.
